Week of September 26th

Tomorrow is the final day of Terra Nova testing - multiple subjects like Spelling, Vocab, Language Mechanics and Math Computation.


Thursday's Homework -
Read for 15 minutes.

RRJ - Continue finding descriptions or mentions of the ladybug in James and the Giant Peach. Use Post-its to mark page and record page and line number in your RRJ.

Tomorrow is yet another day of Terra Nova testing - Math.
Wednesday's Homework -

Read for 15 minutes.

RRJ - Make a list of the things you couldn't live without (Like the one Suds made.)
Write a dinner scene like the one Suds had with his family. Use your family but you can make things up to make it funny like in Fourth Grade Rats. Try to write it like Jerry Spinelli did in our book.


Tomorrow is another day of Terra Nova testing - Reading Comprehension.

Tuesday's Homework -

Read Science text pages C32 - C39
Complete both sides of the sheet as you read.
Complete the Glaciers/Ice Cube chart in your Science notebook




Tomorrow begins a week of Terra Nova testing so the main homework is :

Get a good night's sleep!
Eat a good breakfast. Snack won't be until the testing is over for the morning.
Bring sharpened #2 pencils

Also - read for 15 minutes
Wordly Wise - Lesson 1A and 1B. You CAN do it in the workbook this year.

Week of September 19th

Have fun with the ladybugs. If you want info on how to care for them or feed them, check out Ladybug Lady.






Thursday Homework –

Read for 15 minutes. Try to make T-S and T-T connections in your reading.

Math – workbook page 3

Science – read the ladybug sheet and in your notebook write any of the facts that you read that you also noticed with the ladybugs.
Remember – if you want to bring some ladybugs home, have a parent sign the note.


REMINDERS:  Walkathon tomorrow – wear gym uniforms.
You can still bring in the walkathon form if you’ve forgotten so far.

Pizza lunch will be provided tomorrow but bring lunch if you don’t like Pizza or want something more.

Anniversary celebration is this weekend!
Wednesday -

Read for 15 minutes (or more). If you are still reading James and the Giant Peach, then that is what you should be reading for 15 minutes. If you have finished James, then you should read in your other Roald Dahl book.

Math - Study for Math spelling quiz on numbers on Friday

Religion - sheet




Tuesday -

Read for 15 minutes (or more). If you are still reading James and the Giant Peach, then that is what you should be reading for 15 minutes. If you have finished James, then you should read in your other Roald Dahl book.

RRJ - Write about whether you are liking or not liking your Roald Dahl book(s). Be sure to explain your answer.

Religion - sheet

Writing - Continue to work on the 1st draft of your Willow story.

REMEMBER - Math spelling quiz on numbers on Friday.



Monday -

Because of the Home School meeting tonight, the only homework is to read for 15 minutes and respond in your RRJ.

Thursday Homework –

Re-read chapters 1 – 3 of James and the Giant Peach.
Answer question in RRJ:
Think about the scene where James meets the old man in the garden. How would you react if that happened to you? How would you feel? What would you do?

Read Chapter 4 of James and the Giant Peach.
In RRJ – How is the way James acted similar to or different than the way you said you would react?

Math – workbook page 1 numbers 1 – 11 only.

ELA – workbook – page 1.


Wednesday homework -


Read for 15 minutes.

Science – complete chart about Peach Observation and glue into notebook.

Religion – Why did Msgr. Kain tell us to be like Simon?  How can you be like Simon and help people? (In Religion notebook)



Tuesday homework -

Please return the Phys Ed form by tomorrow or Mrs. D will not be able to let your child participate. Most have them in; just a few to go. I reminded those children today.



Read for 15 minutes.

RRJ -Pretend you are James (from James and the Giant Peach) and write a diary entry in your RRJ telling your thoughts about your life. You can make up how you think he feels or use info from the part of the story we read today. It's up to you. Be creative!

 Monday homework -

Lots of notices went home today (something like 9!). Please return emergency forms and gym health forms as soon as possible.


Read for 15 minutes.

RRJ - write a letter to me about the book you are reading. Is it a good fit for you? Think about what we discussed about I PICK:

Your book
P = Your purpose in reading it - Are you reading it for fun, to learn something, to do a report?
I = Your interest - Is this book about something that interests you?
C = How is your comprehension of the book? Do you understand what you're reading?
K = Do you know the words?  Try the five finger rule. Are there more than 5 words on a page that you can't pronounce or don't know the meaning.

Math - sheet (Do this by yourself so I can see how you're doing.)

I'm really excited for you all to come in next week so we can start our year together. I've got all sorts of things planned so we'll have an exciting year ahead filled with lots of learning and fun. Enjoy these last few days of vacation. See you on Wednesday!
