Reminder -

Monday is Family Day for Catholic Schools Week.  Parents are welcome to join us in the classroom from 9 - 11 after breakfast at 8:30 in the cafeteria.

Think about the reasons we can be thankful for the work our police officers do for us. We will be celebrating their service to our community this week.

Writing - have someone help you edit your draft for spelling, grammar and punctuation.

Week of January 18 - 22

Reminder - the children all received a notice that those who ordered Econoboards can pick them up after school tomorrow in the lunchroom.  Parents, children who have to pick up Econoboards will be dismissed to the lunchroom and should be picked up there. Everyone else will come out the regular way.

Aisling - no, you did not have to take notes on the Readers Theater script - just fill in the chart if you find any of the elements we've discussed.

Ms. Jordan - I sent a note home with Brandon today. Yes, it's fine.


Mr. Blandino - no problem. He can do it over the weekend.

Read 20 minutes and record on log.

SS - Read pages in text book and complete sheet.

Math - sheet.  Make any corrections on the homework I returned.

Word Study - write definitions from 2nd set of words in notebook and complete sheet 3A

Read Readers Theater script and fill in details from this play on the fairy tale chart.


Aisling - there was no extra question on the back of the sheet. I just said you should fill in the fairy tale chart with the info from Rhodopis and Her Golden Sandals. You can put it underneath what we did in class today.

 Wednesday Homework

Read 20 minutes and record on log.

Cinderella story sheet - This is the  story called Rhodopis and Her Golden Sandals. For the chart, compare it with the story we read in class - The Golden Sandal by Rebecca Hickox.

Word Study - Lesson 3 words - copy definitions into Word Study notebook.

Religion - Re-read chapter 3 and do the lesson review on p. 52.  Test next Wednesday. 
                Think about a person you know who is a good Samaritan.


Yes, you do have to do the part that says to write your own version of the current events story.

The school is taking up a collection for the people of Haiti. Anyone who wishes to contribute any amount to help should please send the money to school this week. We will be collecting from Wednesday through Friday. Thank you.

Monday Homework

Writing - think about the "problem" for your fairy tale. If you think you are sure of it, write it in your Writer's Notebook.

Math - DHP - page 100 and addition/subtraction sheet

Current events - Read both sides of the Haiti sheet and complete the chart.

Religion - Write a prayer for the people of Haiti.
                Complete the "Dream" sheet.

Word Study - write the definitions for the first set of Lesson 3 words in Word Study NB (Due Thursday).

Math - sheets  Note:  There are two review sheets to study and 4 sheets to work on.  You should do the sheets labeled "It Figures" and "Perimeter Puzzle" as well as the two "Review of Third Grade" Area and Perimeter.  If you brought home any of the others, you are not supposed to do them. We will work on them tomorrow together as a review.

The Math test is Wednesday so if there is anything about area and perimeter that is still confusing to you, write me a note about it.

Weekend homework -

Read

Complete the Science/SS/Art worksheet - the one on your clan animal.  You should have it in your clan folder but it actually involves information for all three subjects.

To respond to a question about the math homework. When I say show the work, you don't have to write out the entire question, just show how you go the answer. For example - for problem number 1 - the sides of the triangle are 3, 3, and 5. To find perimeter you add the sides. So for your answer, you should show:
1. 3 + 3 + 5= 11     C

Just a reminder to the people sending comments to the Book Blog - I can't post them until you return the permission slip.

Homework -

Read 20 minutes and record on log.

Math - COACH book - read page 146 and do pages 147-149 in Math Notebook. Show work.

Religion - Draw creation story

SS - Draw Iroquois creation story.

Wednesday Homework -
Library state project work due tomorrow. Remember - it doesn't have to be written up. Mrs. D. will work with you on it tomorrow.

Word Study - study definitions (text next Friday (January 15th)

Science - in your notebook, write an observation about the changes in your Three Sisters Garden. Include illustrations - either your own drawings or take a photograph.

SS - write a reflection on the video we watched ab out Native American storytelling. Remember - a reflection means writing about your thoughts or questions.

Math - test next Wednesday (January 13th) on area and perimeter.




Stephanie - I don't see any reason why you can't double-space the essay. It makes it easier to read that way.  I will bring Inkspell for you. Promise!

Read for at least 20 minutes and record on new logs. Remember - your December log was already due so bring it in if you haven't yet.

Math - 2 sheets

Word Study -copy the hilighted definitions from the second half of the new words into your word study notebook and do the sheet

SS - finish the Native American sheet. Answer the questions in your SS notebook. YES, you have to do the last question.  Think about the clans you chose and who you are sitting with. Those people are your clan members and the others in your group are the other clans in your village.  The animal on your folder is your clan animal.

REMINDER: The What St. Ephrem's Means to Me essays are due to Mrs. D. tomorrow!
