First week of May!

Monday Homework:

Read for 30 minutes for fun!
Clean up your Science notebook by stapling or taping the Cicada papers into the space where we left room. Read the rest of the Three Sisters Garden paper and take notes on what you need to do to finish your garden. You can add more info in on what you've already learned and done. Remember, the more you do, the better your Science notebook will be.

Remember to bring Tale of Despereaux to school.

Happy Weekend!

No weekend homework!

Parents: we're going to be doing a number of projects that require soil. If anyone is able to donate some bags of potting soil, it would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you.

except...  look at these pictures of cicadas and imagine how you would make a model.

Week of Math State Testing

THURSDAY

We're almost done!!!!!

I didn't give any written  homework tonight, but....
We were working on a packet in school this afternoon. I gave the children the answer sheet so they can check any problems they didn't finish. I particularly suggest they review # 67 because that shows division by the rectangle model.

WEDNESDAY -

I'm not giving any written homework today, but I suggested the children take home the READY NY books and review - especially anything that may have been confusing on today's test.

Links -  Here is the link for the math questions - http://www.homeworknow.com/hwnow/gethw.php?id=168375

For anyone who is interested - here are some links you can use:
To practice measuring with a protractor (they have one that you can move on the screen)  http://www.mathplayground.com/measuringangles.html

For measuring with a ruler -The ruler game

For a refresher on area model of multiplication - http://www.learner.org/courses/learningmath/number/session4/part_b/multiplication.html
Hint - you needed that for problem # 13

Tuesday Homework -

You know the drill for Wednesday - sleep, eat, relax, bring pencils and a positive attitude!  :)

The only homework is to finish the packet we started in school.

Remember:  Tuesday is a free dress down for anyone who walks to school. If you live too far away, taking public transportation or the school bus counts or you can park a block or two away from school and walk the rest of the way.

Monday -

COACH  Practice Test 2 - pages 24 - 33 (Questions 1 - 45). Just copy the letter on loose leaf.

Properties Packet

Sheet on fractions/percents

I gave out an other copy of the measurement study sheet because some students still haven't memorized the basic measurements.

Weekend Homework

NYSCC Math tests are next week on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

Weekend Homework -

Study your measurement facts. You can't do the word problems if you haven't memorized the facts.

Study math vocabulary. You need to know the words to know what the question is asking you to do!

Know your equivalent fractions. Often the answer choices show an equivalent fraction rather than the one you're expecting. If you know the equivalents, you'll figure out the answers!

I'm trying to skip around with the practice and assign the things we did a long time ago or that seemed weak.

READY NY Math:
Lessons 31 and 32. You don't actually have to write out every last but, but make sure you understand the information.

Pages 302 - 303 and 326, 327, 328.

Other work:

**   Poem is due Monday (See Thursday's homework for details.)

**   Earth Week Project  (Due any time next week.) - Make a poster promoting the message of Earth Day/Week. Make sure you use recycled materials to make your poster.

Some ideas:
  •      Cut up a cereal box to use as the background.
  •      Use the 4 sides of a milk container.
  •      Use old newspaper to cut out letters.
  •      Find things around your house that you can recycle and attach them to your poster
Use your imagination!!!!

Week of ELA testing

ELA is finished. Onward to Math!

Tonight's homework has two parts.

1) complete the math packet on patterns that we were working on today. Do the two packets on measurement.  (Good work on last night's packets!)

2) Today was Poem in Your Pocket Day and we celebrated by finding poems we like. Each student is to take either the poem they found (or a new one) and write his/her own poem about the same topic. That is due Monday. We are going to do a project with it in school for April is Poetry Month (Nie to celebrate something other than April is Testing Month!).

Two days of ELA down, one to go.

Today's test was pretty exhausting so the only homework is to do the two math packets. We did area and perimeter back in December when we were doing the area model of multiplication, but it needs some serious reviewing. :)

One day of testing done! Everyone worked really hard. Good job!

Tuesday Homework -
We're practicing remembering to add details to our essays.
Do Practice Test 1, Test 2 in the Practice Book. It begins on pages 21 - 27. (Up, Up and Away)

Math - READY NY pages 34 - 36 and study page 2. Also make sure you know the measurement sheet I gave you.

Be sure to:
Get a good night's sleep.
Eat a hearty breakfast.
Remember pencils and sharpener.

Snack will be after the test ends.

Monday Homework:

1) Finish Math READY NY Lesson 11.
2) ELA - revise one of the two essays in the Practice Book (either How Beaver Stole Fire/Stealing Fire from Zeus or A Project for Two.) I would prefer you do How Beaver Stole Fire/Stealing Fire from Zeus.
Use the feedback I have given you on your other essays as well as the notes we took.
Flip through the READY ELA book for anything you may not be sure of.
